A-maize-ing!

Is there anything better than corn? On this night, Caroline didn't think so.

Of course, it did have to be on the cob. Apparently, when it is removed prior to eating, it takes on an entirely different taste. Or that's our guess anyway based on refusals of any other corn-delivery method.

Mom and Dad were quite impressed with her technique - and displayed at such a young age! And we imagine that her Indiana- and Iowa- born grandparents (and their parents, checking all this out from above) especially appreciate the apparent (or should I say app"ear"ant?) love of our favorite grain :-)

Caroline's Eleventh Month

11 months old!

Caroline updates:
  • Still no official, "look ma, no hands" walking, though "cruising" is a favorite pasttime. And CEC wants to pull up on everything, which leads to lots of chasing by Mom and Dad as we try to keep her from reaching silly things like liquor bottles and oven doors. No need to say it; we know we're mean.
  • She's added "whoa!" and "ball" to her growing list of words. And though she'll repeat "DaDa," we're not sure she'd identify him by name in a lineup (let's hope she never has to).
  • She is an excellent pointer! Nobody could beat her identification of mommy's nose and mouth, and her all time favorite - the kitchen light.
  • She officially has 8 teeth, but her first two molars are ready to make an appearance any day. Not fun now, but just wait until she is chewing up a storm.

Daddy's Little Girl

Caroline and Daddy celebrated their first Father's Day with a trip to the National Zoo. While we perhaps weren't the only family with the idea, it would be hard to find a pair that enjoyed it more.

And despite the abundance of t-shirts claiming others as "Worlds Greatest Dad," neither Caroline or her mom were fooled for a second.

We know the score, and that guy lives at our house.

Ah - that feels nice!
Oh yeah - Mom was there too

This place wears me out!

Rested and hungry!

Here Daddy - You have some

Caroline loves Daddy - and Daddy loves Caroline!

...Yes Indeed I'm Talkin'...*

Boy, when things change, they change fast.

Our baby girl is quickly rounding the corner into little girldom, as evidenced by a recent independent streak that we undoubtedly should have seen coming. Though not fully convinced that she should eat only grown-up food, CEC has become determined to feed herself. Very messy, a little frustrating, and absolutely hilarious meals ensue.

Check out this weekend's foray into breakfast. The face paint is banana mango - lovely, isn't it?

She also continues to amaze us with her ever expanding vocabulary! In just the past few weeks, the jibberish has started to turn into something even we English speakers can understand:

  • Bye (accompanied by enthusiastic waving)
  • Hi (accompanied by the same wave!)
  • Wow! - or more accurately "Wow wow wowowowowow!"
  • Uh oh! (a mommy and daddy favorite. When it doesn't follow throwing food or her sippy cup)
  • No no (sure we're going to live to regret this one)
  • Up (we're working on "Up please" but so far, just have the "up" part down)

Notice, that there is no "mama" or "daddy" on the list. Harumph. We try, but I think she is holding out on us.

What will this week hold? I can't wait to find out!

*Notice that these lyrics to Fats Domino's "I'm walkin'" are missing a key phrase. Namely the "walkin'" part. We're not there yet - all in due time - and we'll be sure to update the blog, hopefully with video evidence!

The Name Game

Caroline already has one adorable cousin - Sam "the Man" Ray. She finally got to meet this little heartbreaker back in March when she traveled to Tallahassee for her baptism, and he brought his parents from Jacksonville to witness the big occasion. As you can see, the meeting was quite exciting for both parties.

My cousin Sam is so cool!

The other big news, announced during said trip, was that the number of CEC cousins is multiplying. Sam's baby sisters (plural not a typo) are due to arrive in early October!

And the latest exciting news? They won't be called "A" and "B" for life! The big name reveal came this week. So, what are their names? Madeline June and Leslie Emerson - beautiful names for what will undoubtedly be beautiful little girls.

And before we go, a bonus shot of our favorite nephew:

Can't get better than that.
